In this case, just multiply 5 * 6. The answer must be somewhere near 30.

So the decimal goes after the 4.

But your teacher is likely going to want a more formal method. So the formal answer is this: Count the number of decimal places. 5.24 provides 2 decimal places -- the 2 and the 4 are to the right of the decimal.

6.5 adds another one 0.5

Altogether you have 3 decimal places.

Add a decimal after the second 0.

Count 3 places to the left.

You wind up with 34.060 just as you did before.
