Explanation:

Given that:

Discount on sale, d = 15%

Amount paid = £42.50

Hence the relation to obtain the amount paid goes thus ;

Amount paid = (1 - d) * original amount

Let original amount = x

42.50 = (1 - 0.15)x

42.50 = 0.85x

x = 42.50 / 0.85

x = £50

Amount saved :

£(50 - 42.50) = £7.50
