12a² - 4(1 - 2a)² + 8 = ⇒ expand
12a² - 4( 1 - 4a + 4a²) + 8 = ⇒ open parenthesis
12a² - 4 + 16a - 16a² + 8 = ⇒ collect like terms
(12- 16)a² + 16a + (8 - 4) = ⇒ simplify
-4a² + 16a + 4 ⇒ answer
