Answer:

(4, 2 ) and (5, - 4 )

Explanation:

(3)

6x + 2y = 28 → (1)

x = 2y → (2)

Substitute x = 2y into (1)

6(2y) + 2y = 28

12y + 2y = 28

14y = 28 ( divide both sides by 14 )

y = 2

Substitute y = 2 into (2) for corresponding value of x

x = 2(2) = 4

solution is (4, 2 )

(4)

x + y = 1 → (1)

2x + y = 6 → (2)

Rearrange (2) expressing y in terms of x by subtracting 2x from both sides

y = 6 - 2x → (3)

Substitute y = 6 - 2x into (1)

x + 6 - 2x = 1

- x + 6 = 1 ( subtract 6 from both sides )

- x = - 5 ( multiply both sides by - 1 )

x = 5

Substitute x = 5 into (3) for corresponding value of y

y = 6 - 2(5) = 6 - 10 = - 4

solution is (5, - 4 )
