Mount Rushmore is a sculpture featuring the faces of four American Presidents. These Presidents include George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt. This 60 foot, impressive work of art attracts millions of people a year. Mount Rushmore is carved into the rock of the Black Hills in South Dakota. However, before the faces of four important American Presidents were here, the land belonged to Native Americans. This sculpture may be a very popular site, but it is controversial because Native people and the Sioux were forced off of the sacred land after a series of battles.
