Firstly, we have two rectangles. The measurements for the rectangle in the left are 2cm and 3cm. Formula for area is b(h), so 2*3 is 6cm^2. Next, the measurements for the rectangle in the right is 7*6. This is 42cm^2. If we add our answers, we get 48cm^2.

Alternatively, this is going to be hard to explain, but you can add 2 and 7 to get 9cm. 9*3 gives us 27cm^2. Then, we can subtract 3 from 6 to give us 3. 3*7 is 21cm^2. 21+27 is 48cm^2. Same answer, different ways to solve them.

The answer is 48 centimeters squared.
