A company claims that their new bottle holds 25% more laundry soap. If their original container held 42 fluid ounces of soap, how much does the new container hold?

The new container holds ___ fluid ounces.
HELP PLEASE. <3.

Two ways to look at this. Either way, we convert 25% to a decimal by dividing by 100, = 0.25

One way is to multiply 42 x 0.25 = 10.5. That tells us how many ounces are added. Then add 42 + 10.5 = 52.5 ounces

The other way is to multiply 42 x 1.25 = 52.5
In this equation, the 1 represents the original 42 oz, and the .25 represents the extra ounces.
