A stiff, sticky fine-grained earth, typically yellow, red, or bluish grey in color and often forming an impermeable layer in the soil. It can be molded when wet, and is dried and baked to make bricks, pottery, and ceramics.Clays develop plasticity when wet, due to a molecular film of water surrounding the clay particles, but become hard brittle a non-plastic upon drying or firing. Hope it helps :)
