A stiff, sticky fine-grained earth, typically yellow, red, or bluish grey in color and often forming an impermeable layer in the soil. It can be molded when wet, and is dried and baked to make bricks, pottery, and ceramics.Clays develop plasticity when wet, due to a molecular film of water surrounding the clay particles, but become hard brittle a non-plastic upon drying or firing. Hope it helps :)

Answer:

  • A stiff, sticky fine-grained earth that can be moulded when wet, and is dried and baked to make bricks, pottery, and ceramics.
  • Clay minerals are generally classified into three layer types based upon the number and arrangement of tetrahedral and octahedral sheets in their basic structure. These are further separated into five groups that differ with respect to their net charge

Hope it helps
