QUICK! Mike and Andy are each reading the same book. Mike read 2/4 of the book on Tuesday and 1/3 of the book on Wednesday. Andy read 1/2 of the book on Tuesday and 1/5 of the book on Wednesday. Andy says that altogether he read more of the book on Tuesday and Wednesday than Mike. Is Andy correct?

Answer:

Mike read more of the book

Explanation:

I made 1/3 and 1/5 into a equal fraction and 1/3 would be 5/15 and 1/5 would be 3/15 and 2/4 and 1/2 are the same so it just comes to to 1/3 and 1/5. Mike read more of the book than Andy

Answer:

Andrew is wrong

Explanation:

You need to add the fractions together. To add fractions you need a common denominator, so for mike 2/4 changes to 6/12 and 1/3 changes to 4/12 meaning he read 10/12 of the book. Andy read 1/2 or 5/10 and 1/5 or 2/10 so 7/10. By cross multiplying we see that 10/12 is greater so mike read more.
