Explanation:

For no 1

25 - 3x = 40

- 3x = 40 - 25

- 3x = 15

- x = 15 / 3

Therefore x = - 5

Now for no. 2

1/3 ( x - 10) = - 4

( x - 10 ) = - 12

x = - 12 + 10

Therefore x = - 2
