If 2x + 3y = 12 and 3x + 2y = 8, then find the value of x + y

x + y = 4

Explanation:

2x + 3y = 12 ---------------(I)

3x +2y = 8 -------------(II)

Add (1) and (II),

(I) 2x + 3y = 12

(II) 3x + 2y = 8

Add⇒ 5x + 5y = 20

Divide the entire equation by 5,

x + y = 4

Answer: x + y = 4
