Solving an Equation

The whole idea of solving an equation is finding the variable's value by isolating it on one side of the equation.

Given Equation

\star\quad\bf{-17=-3r}

In order to isolate r, divide both sides of the equation by -3:

\star\quad\sf{-r=-\cfrac{17}{3}}

\star\quad\sf{r=\cfrac{17}{3}}

Therefore, r = 17/3. Hence simplified!!

Answer and Explanation:

We can solve for the variable r in the equation:

-17 = -3r

by dividing both sides by -3:

(-17)/(-3) = (-3r)/(-3)

The -3's cancel on the right side, leaving only the variable:

(17)/(3) = r

\boxed{r = (17)/(3)}

Note

A negative divided by a negative results in a positive.
