if a and b are parallel, then the angles

(6x - 36)° and 96° are alternate exterior angles and are congruent , so

6x - 36 = 96 ( add 36 to both sides )

6x = 132 ( divide both sides by 6 )

x = 22

for a and b to be parallel then x = 22
