Answer:

Newton's first law of motion, also known as the law of inertia, states that an object at rest will remain at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion at a constant velocity unless acted upon by an external force. In other words, an object will maintain its state of motion (or lack of motion) unless a net force is applied to it. This law is one of the fundamental principles of classical mechanics and was introduced by Sir Isaac Newton in his work "Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica" (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy) in 1687.
