Huda evaluated the expression below.

Negative 3 (8 minus 5) squared minus (negative 7) = negative 3 (3) squared minus (negative 7) = negative 3 (9) minus (negative 7) = 27 minus (negative 7) = 34.

What was Huda’s error?
Huda evaluated (3) squared incorrectly.
Huda found the product of –3 and 9 as positive.
Huda subtracted –7 from 27 incorrectly.

Answer:

Huda found the product of –3 and 9 as positive.

Explanation:

Write these in numbers.

These are my steps:

-3(8-5)²-(-7)= −3×3²−(−7)= -3×9- (-7)= -27-(-7)= -27+7= -20

Huda's steps:

-3(8-5)²-(-7)= -3(3)²-(-7)= -3(9)-(-7)= 27-(-7)= 34

You can see the difference between my answer and her answer is 27. She found 27 as positive and I found it as negative meaning that Huda found the product of –3 and 9 as positive is the answer. -3×9 is -27 because there is a negative number, not two negative numbers.
