Answer:

y = -1/4x + 13/4

Explanation:

The slope of the line graphed is 4. If you start at any point graphed on the line, you can see to get to the next point you go up 4 and 1 right. 4/1 = 4. the slope is 4.

When you are making a perpendicular line the new slope is the opposite reciprocal. The opposite reciprocal of 4 is -1/4. This is the slope of the equation that you need.

y = mx + b To write the equation we need the m (slope) nd the b (y-intercept.

We will use the y value from the point given (1,3)

y = 3

We will use the x value from the point given (1,3)

x = 1

and the slope -1/4 to find the b value of the equation

m = -1/4

We will plug in what we have and solve for b

y = mx + b

3 = -1/4(1) + b

3 = -1/4 + b Add 1/4 to both sides

3 + 1/4 = b

12/4 + 1/4 = b

13/4 = b

Now that we know that m = -1/4 and b = 13/4 we can write the equation

y = mx b

y = -1/4x + 13/4
