The length of a rectangle is three times its width. If the perimeter is 132 inches, what is the length of the rectangle?

Answer:

length is 49.5 inches

Explanation:

length: l = 3w

perimeter: p = 2(l + w) = 132

2(l + w) = 132

l + w = 66

3w + w = 66

4w = 66

w = 66/4 = 16.5

l = 3w = 3 x 16.5 = 49.5

Hello!

width = x

length = 3x

so:

2(x + 3x) = 132

2x + 6x = 132

8x = 132

x = 132/8

x = 16.5

so:

width = 16.5 inches

length = 3*16.5 = 49.5 inches
