7x^2 - 4x

Explanation:

The problem states the rectangle has a height of X and width of (7X-4). Rectangle area is height times width.

(x)(7x - 4) = (x)(7x) - (x)(4) = 7x^2 - 4x, from distributive property

P.S. The graphic in your question may be causing confusion. It looks like the pink part is a negative length, and a rectangle can't really have a negative length! I think it is a very poor illustration. They could have done a lot better with it.
