A solution that contains less solute than a saturated solution but is still able to dissolve additional solute is called an unsaturated solution. In an unsaturated solution, the amount of solute present is less than the maximum amount that can be dissolved at a given temperature and pressure.

In an unsaturated solution, there is still room for more solute particles to dissolve. If additional solute is added to the solution, it will dissolve until it reaches the point of saturation, where no more solute can dissolve and the solution becomes saturated.

To summarize, an unsaturated solution contains less solute than a saturated solution and has the ability to dissolve more solute until it reaches the point of saturation.
