One season, there was a shortage of producers in a food web. As a result, the number of deer and wolves decreased. The reason that both the deer and the wolf populations declines is that

Answer:
A lack of producers (which are at the bottom of an ecological pyramid) means that there is less food for the primary consumers (deer). A lack of food means a decrease in the deer population. Since the tertiary consumers, wolves, supposedly feed on deer, their population would also decrease due to a lack of food.

This isn't a mathematics question, so in the future please post it in its respective section (biology or something).
