Then, you find the area of the top and bottom triangles:

Next, you find the area of the left and right trangles:

Lastly, you add up all the numbers:

6.4 + 4 + 6.8 = 17.2

Explanation:

ONE rectangle 4 x 1.6 = 6.4 m^2

TWO triangles area = 1/2 b h = TWO x 1/2 * 1.6 * 2.5 = 4 m^2

TWO triangles area = TWO X 1/2 * 4 * 1.7 = 6.8 m^2

Total 6.4 + 4 + 6.8 = 17.2 m^2
