Fracking can cause groundwater contamination. When companies or individuals frack for oil in areas close to residential living, they can leak chemicals or even oil retrieved from the Earth into local water sources (water tanks or wells). Carbon (or any pollutant) emissions can also contaminate groundwater. CO2 in the air can be absorbed by living organisms rooted in dirt/soil, leeching chemicals/pollutants into the ground and eventually into water sources.
