We know that there are 10 pieces left over, so we can subtract that from our total amount. (310-10)

Then, we know that the rest of the candy was given to s students, hence (310 − 10) ÷ 15 = s.

BONUS -To solve the equation:

(310 − 10) ÷ 15 = s

300 ÷ 15 = s

s=20
