Hector's plant has grown 3 inches in 2 weeks. If the plant continues to grow at the same rate, how much will it have grown in 6 weeks?

Explanation:

it grows at the same rate.

the rate is 3 inches / 2 weeks. in short 3/2 in/weeks.

now we have 6 weeks instead of 2, but we need to keep the same rate, that means the fraction representing the rate must have the same value also for 6 weeks.

so, the question is, for what x is

3/2 = x/6

6×3/2 = x

18/2 = x

9 = x

so, it grows 9 inches in 6 weeks.

3/2 = 1. 5 inches per week, 1.5 x 6 = 9
9 is the answer
