Answer:
I think the best example of this is the Percy Jackson and the Olympians film to the book, we will start with the film. First off, it would be an okay movie by itself but it is nothing like the book. since it is a movie they had to cut off a lot of stuff that happened in the book which makes the movie miss minor details they need for the rest of the series, this made millions of fans mad at whoever wrote the script for the movie. The book, however, was phenomenal, millions loved it and said "it's the new Harry Potter" With the face paced adventures and hilarious and sarcastic storytelling from our narrator (Percy) it's impossible not to fall in love with the series. When the film came out people complained because it was "not the book" and that is the problem with books turning into movies. Movies can't fit all of the stories from a book. The best way to do it is to make it a series, each episode is a chapter from the book. I mean they basically have the script written out for them. It works out perfectly, Just add in every detail from the book and pick actors that look like how the characters are described, and make sure they give off the same feel that they do in the book. For instance, when they were casting Hermonie for the Harry Potter movies they wouldn't have picked someone who had an American accent and who had blonde hair. (I think Emma Watson was perfect for the part) If they had, people probably would have complained about how that's not how they imagined the characters when they were reading. Casting directors (before they cast anyone) should have a survey for all the fans of the book. The survey should ask how fans thought of the characters and how they imagined them and then maybe the fans could send in fanart so the casting director can get an idea of what the character should look like. (As long as the fanart is going off of how the characters are described) Another important thing is to get the Author of the book involved and ask them as many questions as possible. What is the mood in this scene? How did you want this character to act and look? etc. I belive that is the right way to turn a book into a movie (but don't turn it into a movie, turn it into a series)
