Harry Daugherty was the Attorney General of the United States from 1921 to 1924. He resigned in 1924 after being investigated for taking bribes from a private oil company in exchange for allowing the company to drill for oil on public lands.
The investigation into Daugherty's corruption led to his resignation, and he was subsequently charged with bribery and conspiracy. Daugherty was acquitted of the charges, but his reputation was permanently tarnished, and he is remembered as one of the most corrupt officials in American history.
