Diego paid $47 for 3 tickets to a concert. Andre paid $141 for 9 tickets to a concert. Did they pay at the same rate? Explain your reasoning or show your work.

Diego and Andre filled up their cars with gas to get to the concert. Diego spent $15.12 for 8 gallons of gas. Andre spent $9.95 for 5 gallons. How much did each pay per gallon of gas? Explain or show your work.

Explanation:

First, we need to find the unit rate for both. We do this by dividing the price they paid by the number of tickets they got.

47 / 3 = $15.66, which is the unit rate for Diego.

141 / 9 = $15.66, which is the unit rate for Andre.

They did pay at the same rate.

Now do the same thing buy with their gas.

15.12 / 8 = 1.89, which is the rate for Diego.

9.95 / 5 = 1.99, which is the rate for Andre.

They did not pay the same rate, Andre paid more by 10 cents per gallon.
