The area shaded region expressed as a fraction times π is 17/2 × π square units

What is the area of the shaded region?

Area of a circle = πr²

= π × 3²

= π × 9

= 9π

Area of a sector = 1/2 × r × arc length

= 1/2 × 3 × ⅓π

= 3/6π

= 1/2π

Area of the shaded region = Area of a circle - Area of a sector

= 9π - ½π

= 18π - π/2

= 17/2π

Therefore, area of the shaded region is 17/2 × π
