To find the GCF, you take the two numbers example 9 and 12 , and take the smallest number times 1,2,3 etc. 1 x 9 is 9, 12 can’t go into that. 2x 9 is 18, 12 also can’t go into that by multiplication. 9x3 is 27, which 12 can’t go in either. 9x 4 is 36, and 12 can go into that 3 times. so the GCF is 36.

Eg. 18=2*3^2

24=2^3*3

Then, take the smallest exponent ( in this case 2 and 3)

And multiply them.

2*3=6
