For b < 0

The real number a = 1.5 and

The real number b = √23

For b>0

The real number a = 1.5 and

The real number b = √23

How to solve quadratic equation using quadratic formula.

Given

x² - 3x + 8 = 0

a = 1, b = -3, c = 8

Quadratic formula is

x = \frac{ - b + - \sqrt{ {b}^(2) - 4ac } }{2a}

Substitute

x \: = \frac{ - ( - 3) + - \sqrt{ {( - 3)}^(2) - 4 * 1 * 8 } }{2 * 1}

= (3 + - √(9 - 32) )/(2)

= ( 3 + - √( - 23) )/(2)

x = 1.5 + √(23)i \: \: \\ x = 1.5 - √(23) i

For b < 0

a = 1.5, b = √23

For b>0

a = 1.5, b = √23
