x+2y=-6.......... equation 1

6x+2y=4........ equation 2

subtract equation 2 from equation 1

-5x = -10

x = -10/-5

x=2

substitute x=2 in equation 1

therefore equation 1 becomes

2+2y=-6

2y=-6-2

2y=-8

y=-8/2

y=-4
