How to graph the absolute value function?

Here we want to graph the absolute value function:

f(x) = |x + 2| - 1

Notice that we if g(x) = |x| is the parent absolute value function, then we can write f(x) as follows:

f(x) = g(x + 2) - 1

So we have a translation of 2 units to the left and one unit down of the general absolute value function, the graph will be the one you can see below.
