Explanation:

Sum of exterior angles are equal to the opposite exterior angle. (refer to attached image.)

Applying this to our question we can create equation where ∠R = x

Sum of exterior angles (x + 44) = opposite exterior angle (83)

We can then solve

x + 44 = 83

==> subtract 44 from both sides

x = 39
