(You can write ratios with x because you are multiplying all parts of the ratio by the same amount in order for it to be the same ratio)

The ratio of pencils to pen is 3x:5x

If there are 10 more pens than pencils, and the ratio is 3x:5x, we see that the difference between 3x and 5x is 2x

So now we know that 2x = 10

so x = 5

Since x = 5, we plug in the number to 3x:5x which would be 3(5):5(5) which would be 15:25

So there are 15 pencils.
