The major difference between an instinct and a learned behavior is how it was picked up. An instinct is something that you're born knowing (think of being programmed to do certain actions or display specific behaviors.) An example of this would be how homing pigeons are "wired" and remember their home when they migrate. A learned behavior, on the other hand, is something you have to learn as you don't have a certain behavior, skill, etc. This can be a language, how to walk/talk, personality, likes and dislikes, learning how to read, write, or learn information. So right now, learning about this is displaying a learned behavior (being able to process information and read). :)
