The main cause of anemia is iron deficiency. Therefore the patient is not getting the proper nutrients from their diet and should consider eating more foods that are rich in iron such as spinach and broccoli. They may also want to consider taking an iron supplement. However when putting the patient on an iron supplement the doctor should prescribe a low dose due to the fact that too much iron can be detrimental to health
