I'd say is normally is between 5 and 16 as I am looking to upgrade my homelab's network switch and these "little/home use" network switches normally have 5 NIC's as they are not enterprise use. I will also say that if the network switch haves more than 16 NIC's it will be enterprise use (like 24/48...).
