3. The time taken for a water heater to boil water is inversely proportional to the

power of the water heater. When the power is 2000 Watts it takes 240 seconds to
boil the water. Find the time it takes to boil water when the power is reduced to
1000 Watts.

Answer:

t = 480 seconds

Explanation:

Let

Time taken for a water heater to boil water = t

power of the water heater = p

Constant of proportionality = k

t = k/p

240 = k/2000

Cross product

240 * 2000 = k

k = 480,000

Find the time it takes to boil water when the power is reduced to 1000 Watts.

t = k/p

= 480,000/1000

= 480

t = 480 seconds

t = 480 seconds when p = 1000 watts
