Let x be the [certain number]

Rephrase the expression

13 less than fourteen times a certain number is twenty-nine more than 7 times that number

14x-13=7x+29

Calculate

Given

14x-13=7x+29

Add 13 on both sides

14x-13+13=7x+29+13

14x=7x+42

Subtract 7x on both sides

14x-7x=7x+42-7x

7x=42

Divide 7 on both sides

7x/7=42/7

x=6
