9. Two homebuilders are in the middle of installing windows on their homes. Tom uses the equation

y = 7x + 2 to model the number of windows he is installing on his home and Suzanne uses the equation

y = 6x + 5 to model the number of windows she is installing on her home. In each formula, x represents the number of days that Tom and Suzanne work on installing windows.

x = number of days used

Let y = 10

Tom:

10 = 7x + 2

10 - 2 = 7x

8 = 7x

x = 8/7 ; x = 1.143

Suzanne :

y = 6x + 5

10 = 6x + 5

10 - 5 = 6x

5 = 6x

x = 5/6

x = 0.833

Since 0.833 < 1. 143

Hence, Suzanne is working at a faster rate.

Intercept in Suzanne's equation = 5

Intercept in Tom's equation = 5
