Direct variation is represented by the formula
(y)/(x) = k

where k is the constant of variation.

So here, since we know that x = 24 and y = 8,

the constant of variation must be equal to 8/24.

if we write 8/24 in lowest terms, we have 1/3.

So 1/3 = k.
