Answer: x = -14

1. Let’s call our unknown number „x”. If in task there is written, that the quotient of „x” and 6 is -14, we write that x divided by 6 gives -14:

x : 6 = -14

2. To solve this equation we solve this, by multiplying both sides by x (because we do opposite operation, than it is near x):

x : 6 = -14 | *6

x : 6 * 6 = -14 * 6 (and „:6” and „*6” simplify)

x = -84

So our unknown number is -84. Proof:

-84 : 6 = -14

Hope this helps!
