w=6.5 ft

Explanation:

a rectangular garden would have 4 sides

two of the sides are x feet long

and the other two sides are 2x feet long

therefore

x+x+2x+2x=39

which is the same as saying

6x=39

divide both sides by 6 to get

x=6.5

so the width is 6.5 feet and the length is twice that or 13 feet
