The digital yuan, also known as the e-yuan or Digital Currency Electronic Payment (DCEP), is a digital currency issued by the People's Bank of China (PBOC). While Alipay, owned by Ant Group, has been a dominant player in the mobile payment market in China, the introduction of the digital yuan has created competition for Alipay.
