Answer:

x=1, y= -5 is the answer!!!

Explanation:

we will make both equation equal 49 and make the two equation into one like this: (5x-8y)+4=9x-8y. Now we will solve it, we will move 5x-8y to the other side of the equation like this: +4=9x-8y-5x+8y. Notice I changed the signs(-+)? You are supposed to "changed side changed sign". Next we will add and minus the x and y, x go with x and y go with y, and it will looks like this now: +4=4x+0 we can just take the zero out to make it looks like this: +4=4x ,because we don't need the zero. last, we divide both side by 4 so it will looks like this: 1/1 (or 1). Now we can put 3/4 in both equations to solve for y. 5(1)-8y+4=49, -8y+9=49, -8y=49-9, -8y=40, y=40 divide -8, y= -5. For the other equation let see if the answer is the same: 9(1)-8y=49, 9-8y=49, -8y=49-9, -8y=40, y=40 divide -8, y= -5. Yes the answer is the same, x=1, y=-5 is the answer!!!
