3y+10/4=2y i need help with this problem and i have tried it so many time and i just don't understand it.

Answer:

-5/2=y or -2.5=y

Explanation:

3y+10/4=2y

first you need to move all like terms to the same side

there are two y terms , 3y and 2y

(10/4)+3y=2y

take away 3y from both sides

(10/4)+3y -3y=2y -3y

simplify

2y-3y=-1y=-y

(10/4)=-y

simplify

(5/2)=-y

now get y by itself (it still has a negative sign)

to do this multiply both sides by -1

-1(5/2)=-1(-y)

-5/2=y or -2.5=y
