Explanation:

This is pretty simple to solve. For a 2 × 2, simply cross multiply (the butterfly method) and then subtract the 2nd product from the first. This means that when working out these types of problems, -3 × -2 MUST come first. You can switch it to -2 × -3, but your work should still look like this:

(-3)(-2) - (-7)(-1) = 6 - 7 = -1

You can also switch the order of -7 & -1 to -1 × -7, but it still has to come second.
