(x,y) = (4,-1)

x + 3y = 1 subtract 5 from both sides you get -5x -15y =-5

now sum it up
-5x -15y =-5
5x +6y = 14
you get -9y = 9
divide both sides by -9

you get y=-1

NOW substitute y for x + 3 times (-1)= 1

solve for x and get x=4

therefore your answer is (4,-1)
