A parallelogram and square are joined together to make a shape.the total area of the shape is 301 cm squared .work out the value of h , the perpendicular height of the parallelogram .

Let x be the length of the side of the square and y be the length of the side of the parallelogram.

The area of the square = x2
The area of the parallelogram = y × h

Therefore, x2 + y × h = 301

h = (301 - x2) / y

Therefore, the value of h can be calculated by substituting the values of x and y.
